| Shiawassee River Cleanup - August 2, 2008 |
Join the Friends of the Shiawassee River for River Cleanup 2008! Help remove debris from the River and help restore habitat and water quality! This year's event will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from Byron to Henderson, Michigan. Volunteers should meet at 9:00 a.m. at one of the five locations, listed below, and plan on working until noon. Following the Clean-up, all participants are invited to the River Celebration at the Owosso Amphitheater for a FREE t-shirt and lunch, generously donated by Mancino's of Owosso.
Early Tire Removal & Recycling
In addition, through grant funding generously provided by the Michigan DEQ and Great Lakes Commission Volunteer River, Stream and Creek Cleanup program, the Friends of the Shiawassee River will be working with the Environmental Health Division of the Shiawassee County Health Department to remove and recycle tires from the river and its banks. Tires collected through this program can be accepted free of charge. Tires will be accepted free of charge only to those registering for this program. To participate in the early tire cleanup, taking place the month of July, please contact the Friends of the Shiawasee River at 989-723-9062 for more information.
Tires collected from other locations will be charged based on the Shiawassee Health Department's standard fees and may be taken to the Shiawassee Road Commission collection site. Click here for more information on tire disposal.
