The Friends are thrilled to announce the winners of the 2016 Kayak Raffle.
Tim Berry, from Owosso, is the proud owner of the cherry red Sojourn 134 Hurricane kayak. Mr Berry bought the winning raffle ticket from Bob Dumond; a gentleman who seems to be a good luck charm himself. For the second year in a row, Bob sold the winning Kayak Raffle ticket.
"It's the biggest thing I've ever won in my life," said Tim Berry, winner of the 2016 Kayak Raffle. "I'll buy a ticket next year -- from Bob of course!"
The ticket was sold at Speedway gas station when Bob saw that Tim had a boat and struck up a conversation. They bonded talking about fishing and the beautiful Shiawassee River. Tim is on the river a lot - fishing primarily for bass, pike, and walleye. Tim and his son both bought tickets.
Tim was "ecstatic" when he got the phone call that he'd won.
Cory Brant from Ann Arbor won the Second Prize, which was $150 in cash.
Chris Barrette -- all the way from Georgia -- won the Third Prize, which was a lovely wine basket.
Thank you to everyone that participated in this exciting raffle. Funds generated by the raffle will be used by the Friends to support water quality monitoring, our annual river clean-up, paddling events, and other efforts to keep the river healthy, share the latest science and information about the river, and promote outdoor recreation and public access to our region's most valuable natural asset: The Shiawassee River.
