14th Annual Shiawassee River Cleanup

Join the Friends of the Shiawassee River for our 14th Annual River Cleanup on
Saturday, August 6, 2011!

9 am to noon

Volunteers will meet at several locations throughout the watershed to help remove unwanted debris from the river and its banks.  Volunteers will meet at 9:00 a.m. in one of the following locations:

Owosso at the Oakwood Street pedestrian bridge (near the bus garage)
Corunna at McCurdy Park
Harmon Patridge/Green Meadows Park (Owosso Rotary Club)

In 2009, with the help of nearly 600 volunteer hours, the FOSR removed approximately 40 cubic yards of debris.

Volunteers search the river and its banks for unwanted debris to keep our community and habitat clean! Photo by FOSR.

Tire Retrieval and Recycling
Volunteers netted a total of 450 tires from the river's environment and recycled them through funding from the Great Lakes Commission. Photo by FOSR.
Can't make it on 8/6/11?  Lend a hand throughout the summer as a part of our partner effort with the Shiawassee County Health Department to remove and recycle tires found in the river environment.  Enjoy a float down the river while helping towards our efforts to steward a valuable economic resource.
Since 2008, 450 tires from the river have been recycled with funding from the Great Lakes Commission.  To help in the 2010 effort, contact the FOSR by emailing info@shiawasseeriver.org.
