Volunteers from throughout the Shiawassee River watershed joined the Shiawassee Stream Team by completing training at the DeVries Nature Conservancy on Saturday, October 18, 2008. The Stream Team will provide information to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality on the health of the River system through the Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) Program. Sampling will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 10 a.m. to noon at locations throughout Shiawassee and Livingston Counties.
Training included information on how to sample aquatic insects, sketch habitat, and collect data.
Missed training? You can still take part! Volunteers are needed to help pick and sort insects (macroinvertebrates), take photos, and help other volunteers. For more information, contact Heidi Frei in Shiawassee County at shiawassee_mi@tnc.org or 989-723-9062 or Matt Bolang in Livingston County at 517-552-6870.
